Multimedia Journalist.

Welcome to my portfolio! I’m Janelle, a journalist, historian and freelance writer based in the metro Atlanta area.

I’ve covered many beats since beginning my journalism career at the University of Georgia, including culture, news, race relations and business. I am published in Atlanta’s only Black-owned newspaper, The Atlanta Voice, where I’ve written about real estate and small businesses for just over a year. I also have bylines in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Athens Banner-Herald, Athens’ local Gannett-owned newspaper.

My historical specialization is East Asia, with an emphasis placed on mid-20th-century Japan. I’m working towards obtaining limited working proficiency in both Japanese and Korean. I have achieved limited working proficiency in Spanish. I aspire to cover real estate, housing and other related matters internationally in an effort to bridge relations between the U.S. and East Asian countries.

One of my latest:

Georgia state political leaders and high-ranking executives from the Hilton hotel brand came together for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of the Signia by Hilton in downtown Atlanta. Standing 40 stories tall and featuring 976 guest rooms, the new hotel is now the tallest building on the city’s westside and represents the largest hotel development Atlanta’s seen in 40 years.
